Web Developer's Toolkit
The University Web Standard is delivered in a Web Developer’s Toolkit. The toolkit comes as a single zip archive that contains all necessary documents that are needed to build a compliant site. All files have been validated and have been tested to run on specific browsers. Most importantly, the sample layouts are already accessible and must not be recreated by Web developers.
Requesting the Web Developer’s Toolkit
A request form must be completed in order to receive the Web Developer’s Toolkit. The form can be found by clicking on the "Request Toolkit" link to the left.
Once the request form has been received, the toolkit will be emailed to the Web developer within three business days.
File preparation
Once the toolkit is received, file preparation begins by unzipping the zip archive into a new, empty folder on your computer. Start Dreamweaver and create a new site that points to the new folder. Once the site is created, six folders will be visible.
| Folder | Description |
|---|---|
| /css | Contains all CSS files that can be modified by Web developer. |
| /images | Contains placeholder images for banners and backgrounds. The Web developer can modify these files. |
| /kaosjs | Contains files that manage the breadcrumbs. |
| /library | Contains shared assets such as the footer. |
| /sample_layouts | Contains sample layouts of the three master layouts and their 24 variations. There is a complete sample layout for each layout variation containing placeholder text and images, useful when choosing a master layout or in styling a site. There are also empty layouts without placeholder content that are useful when building a site. Note: It is suggested that this folder be cloaked in Dreamweaver. Files in this folder do not need to be on a Web server. |
| /source_materials | Contains backups of all CSS and image files. Also contains planning documents and documentation on configuring the breadcrumbs utility. Note: It is suggested that this folder be cloaked in Dreamweaver. Files in this folder are backup only and do not need to be on a Web server. |
| /templates | Contains pre-built templates in the event the Web developer does not wish to generate templates from scratch. |
